De facto intelligence operatives have arrested three local youths in Qal’eh-ye Now, the capital of western Badghis province.

According to local sources, the arrests took place following an investigation into the placement of an explosive landmine in a local orchard. Reports indicate that one of the detained individuals is reportedly connected to Ghawsuddin Afghan, who serves within the de facto provincial leadership apparatus as deputy governor.

De facto security and administrative authorities in Badghis have not publicly disclosed the full identities of the three detainees, nor have they released official evidence or formal court documentation detailing the charges. Family members and local residents remain unable to establish formal contact or verify the legal status and exact location where the individuals are being held.

Human rights organizations and regional monitoring groups observe that arbitrary arrests, pre-trial detentions, and extrajudicial interrogations conducted by intelligence units have surged across western and northern provinces. Under the de facto judicial system, individuals accused of security-related offenses or weapon possession are routinely held incommunicado without access to legal representation or transparent legal proceedings.
