A young man has been shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in Pul-e Khumri, the capital city of northern Baghlan province, highlighting a persistent wave of targeted killings and lawlessness across the region.

According to local sources, the victim, identified as Alauddin, was ambushed and gunned down in the “Block Area” of Pul-e Khumri city. The armed assailants fled the scene immediately following the shooting, and the underlying motives behind the killing remain unknown.

De facto security officials in Baghlan have not yet issued an official statement regarding the murder or announced any arrests in connection with the incident.

The killing comes amid a sharp rise in mysterious homicides, personal vendettas, and targeted assassinations across Afghanistan’s urban centers. Human rights monitors continue to report that despite de facto claims of absolute nationwide security, local populations remain vulnerable to criminal violence, uninvestigated murders, and targeted executions under opaque law enforcement frameworks.
