KABUL: Abdul Haq Hemkar, head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, has held talks with Murad Artikov, head of the 500kV Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission project, on accelerating implementation of the major regional electricity initiative.

According to a statement issued by Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, Artikov travelled to Kabul at the head of a delegation and met with Hemkar to discuss progress on the project and ways to speed up its completion.

During the meeting, Artikov expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and highlighted the existing commitment to accelerate work on the 500kV power transmission project.

The TAP project is intended to strengthen electricity connectivity between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan by enabling the transmission of electricity through Afghanistan to Pakistan.

The discussions in Kabul come as Afghanistan seeks to expand its role in regional energy and infrastructure projects and improve electricity connectivity. Accelerating the project could also contribute to greater regional cooperation in the energy sector.

Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat did not provide a specific timeline for completion in its statement, while further details about the latest stage of construction and implementation were not immediately disclosed.

The project remains one of the major proposed regional power transmission initiatives linking Central and South Asia.
