KABUL: The Taliban morality police have detained several women and girls, according to local sources, who said the officers patrolled the city, forced the women into vehicles and took them away.

As per the reports available, the incident took place near Mostofiat Square in Herat, where Taliban’s morality police patrolling the market, arrested the women.

The sources said that veiled female personnel from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice also participated in the actions. The vehicle carrying Taliban personnel was reportedly filled with women and girls who had been gathered from different parts of the city.

The exact number of women and girls detained in Herat remained unknown, and no details have yet emerged about their whereabouts or condition.

In recent months, the Taliban have tightened restrictions on women’s clothing and freedom of movement in Herat. Numerous reports have previously emerged of women being detained in different parts of the city for allegedly failing to comply with the Taliban’s dress code.

The detention of women over alleged violations of the Taliban’s dress code sparked protests in Herat’s Jebrail township in June, during which at least two people were killed.
