KABUL: Two men who went missing in Badghis province have been found dead, with local sources saying they were strangled with a rope rather than killed by gunfire.

The incident occurred in the Qandi Zard area of Qadis district, where the two men had reportedly gone missing last week while travelling in a vehicle. Their bodies were later discovered in the same area, according to local sources.

Sources said one of the victims worked as a guard at a telecommunications antenna, while the second was a civilian who was carrying several thousand Afghanis in cash at the time of the incident.

According to information from local sources, a Taliban member had followed the two men from the provincial centre toward the Qandi Zard market before the incident. Sources said the victims were subsequently found with signs indicating that they had been strangled with a rope.

Local residents have attributed the killings to Taliban members, although the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the identities of those responsible have not been independently established.

The discovery of the bodies has raised concerns among residents about security in the area, particularly following the disappearance of the two men and their vehicle.

No official statement from Taliban authorities regarding the deaths or the allegations against their members was included in the information available.

Authorities have yet to provide further details about the incident, including whether an investigation has been opened or whether anyone has been detained in connection with the killings.
