The Taliban intelligence command in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province has announced the arrest of a young man accused of posting critical content against the group on social media.
According to the Taliban intelligence command, the young man was arrested on Tuesday from the Asfandi area in the fourth district of Ghazni city.
The command did not disclose the identity of the detainee or provide further details about the content he allegedly posted on social media.
Taliban intelligence officials said the young man would undergo initial investigations before being handed over to the relevant institutions of the group for further proceedings.
The arrest highlights continued restrictions on public criticism and online expression in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Journalists, activists and social media users have faced increasing pressure over content considered critical of the authorities.
The Taliban authorities have previously announced arrests of individuals over social media activity, accusing them of spreading criticism or content deemed contrary to the group’s policies.
Details about the legal basis for the latest arrest, the allegations against the young man and whether he will face formal charges remain unclear.
No information was immediately available regarding his current condition or whether his family had been informed about the detention.
