Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani has met with the deputy secretary-general of Qatar’s National Security Council and his accompanying delegation in Kabul.

According to a statement from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior, the meeting focused on expanding relations between Afghanistan and Qatar, improving Afghanistan’s engagement and constructive role in the international community, and further strengthening ties between the two sides.

The Qatari delegation is among several senior foreign delegations that have recently travelled to Kabul for meetings with Taliban officials. The ministry did not provide further details about the specific issues discussed during the meeting or whether any agreements were reached.

Haqqani also met with Ibrahim Kalın, head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization, and his delegation a day earlier. According to the ministry, the talks with the Turkish side covered the development of Afghanistan-Turkey relations, particularly security cooperation, counter-narcotics efforts, coordination between the interior ministries of the two countries and regional issues.

The visits by senior Turkish and Qatari officials come as regional countries continue diplomatic and security engagement with the Taliban authorities in Kabul.

Qatar has played a significant role in Afghanistan-related diplomacy in recent years, while Turkey has maintained communication with Taliban authorities on political, security and regional matters.

Further details regarding the discussions held during the meetings with the Qatari and Turkish delegations have not been publicly released.
