Moscow has announced that it is closely monitoring the evolving security situation along the Tajik-Afghan border. As regional anxieties mount over cross-border threats, senior Russian Foreign Ministry officials confirmed that Russia is continuing to supply military equipment, arms, and technical assistance to Dushanbe to reinforce its southern frontiers.

Alexander Sternik, a high-ranking official within the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that the security of the border with Afghanistan remains a constant priority for Moscow. Under a multi-year intergovernmental program established through the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), specialized military infrastructure upgrades and equipment deliveries are moving forward. Regional security bodies have highlighted that the ongoing transfer of tactical supplies aims to enhance rapid-response capabilities against potential contingencies originating from Afghanistan.

The persistent instability in Afghanistan—marked by increasing armed clashes in border provinces like Badakhshan, the active presence of extremist networks, and international groups such as ISIS-K—continues to alarm Central Asian states. Regional actors have repeatedly voiced deep concern over militant safe havens under the current Kabul administration. In response, allied military deployments, including Russia’s 201st military base in Tajikistan, remain fully prepared to counter external security threats and prevent instability from spilling over into neighboring countries.
