KABUL: The Liberation Front of Afghanistan has claimed that its fighters made battlefield gains during clashes with the Taliban in parts of Nuristan and Kunar provinces.

In a follow-up statement, the group said fighting began on the morning of October 4 after Taliban forces attacked positions held by its fighters in Kamdesh district of Nuristan and Naray district of Kunar. The Front said its commandos responded with defensive operations followed by a coordinated counterattack.

According to the statement, several villages and Taliban outposts were captured during the fighting. The group also claimed that its fighters seized light and heavy weapons and forced Taliban forces to withdraw from some positions.

The Liberation Front claimed that 37 Taliban fighters were killed and 24 others wounded in the clashes. It said the dead and injured were transported to hospitals in Nuristan and Kunar. These casualty figures could not be independently verified from the information available.

The group said its fighters continue to hold positions in several areas of Kamdesh and Naray, while withdrawing temporarily from some vulnerable outposts.

The Liberation Front also accused the Taliban of using propaganda and allegedly coerced videos to influence public perceptions of the fighting. The Taliban has not independently confirmed the casualty figures or the Front’s claims of territorial gains in the material provided.

The statement described the Front’s eastern-region fighters as largely local residents with knowledge of the terrain and said they intend to continue armed resistance against the Taliban.
