KHOST — Panic gripped several neighborhoods in Khost province of Afghanistan as unidentified drones flew over the regional airspace, prompting Taliban fighters to open heavy and sustained gunfire in an attempt to target them, local sources reported.
According to reports, the aerial presence was noted over Khost city and the Sarabagh areas. Taliban fighters engaged the unidentified aircraft with continuous rounds of gunfire that echoed across the city for an extended period.
Despite the intense barrage, the drones continued their flights unaffected. Sources confirmed that no drones were successfully hit or brought down, and no casualties or material damage were reported from the falling bullets, though the commotion caused widespread fear among civilians.
In recent months, frequent sightings of unexplained drone activity have been reported across Khost and various other provinces in Afghanistan. Despite the persistent incursions into Afghan airspace, the ownership, operational objectives, and exact origin of these drones remain shrouded in mystery, with the de facto authorities offering no clear explanation.
