The National Resistance Front (NRF) of Afghanistan has appointed a new commander following the recent death of Hasib Panshiri, who was reportedly killed by the Taliban.

According to the NRF, Commander Mukhtar Shorish has been appointed to take over the position previously held by Hasib Panshiri.

The group described Shorish as one of Panshiri’s closest comrades and fellow fighters, highlighting his previous association and experience alongside the slain commander.

The appointment comes as the NRF continues its armed resistance against the Taliban in parts of Afghanistan. Panshiri’s death was seen as a significant loss for the group, while the appointment of a close associate is expected to maintain continuity within its command structure.

The NRF has not provided further details about the new commander’s specific responsibilities or the circumstances surrounding Panshiri’s killing.

The Taliban has not immediately provided an independent account of the developments described by the NRF. Battlefield and leadership claims involving armed groups in Afghanistan can be difficult to independently verify due to limited access to affected areas.
