Political activist Aatif Mukhtar has criticized the Taliban over their handling of former commander Juma Khan Fati, raising questions about his previous position and influence within the group.

In a post on X, Mukhtar questioned why Fati was given significant authority and opportunities within the Taliban’s system if the group now considers him to have been a criminal or misguided figure. He also asked why serious questions were not raised about his activities earlier and why no proper legal investigation was conducted against him at the time.

Mukhtar described these as serious questions that require clear and convincing answers from the Taliban. He argued that claims of supporting victims and oppressed individuals should be demonstrated through concrete actions rather than remaining limited to statements.

According to Mukhtar, resolving the controversy surrounding Fati and other related issues requires a transparent judicial process. He called for a free, competent and fair court capable of establishing the facts and protecting the rights of all individuals affected by the conflict.

His comments come amid continued debate over former Taliban commanders, internal disputes and the treatment of figures who have fallen out with the group. Mukhtar’s remarks highlight broader concerns about accountability, legal procedures and transparency under the Taliban administration.
