KABUL — Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has assured Tajikistan that no military movements or activities will be permitted along the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Mujahid made the remarks in response to statements from Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security regarding a recent armed clash along the border. He said that some movements had taken place along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan frontier several days ago but claimed that the situation has now been brought under control.

According to Mujahid, there is no ongoing military confrontation or serious security threat along the border. He acknowledged that smuggling has been a longstanding issue in the area, with smugglers using the border route for transit, but said such incidents should not be considered a broader military conflict.

The Taliban spokesperson also assured that Afghan territory would not be used against Tajikistan and emphasized the group’s intention to prevent military activities along the frontier.

Earlier, Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security reported that two Afghan nationals were killed during a border clash. Tajik authorities said the individuals had illegally entered Tajik territory and were allegedly involved in drug smuggling.

The incident has heightened attention on security and cross-border activity along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan frontier.
