KABUL: An ethnic elder was killed by unidentified armed men in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province, according to local sources.

Sources said Haji Ghulam Sakhi, a local community elder, was killed by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night in the Dasht-e Delbak area of Bandar district.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and no group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. Local authorities have also not provided detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The killing comes amid growing concerns over security and criminal activity in different parts of Afghanistan. Residents in several provinces have raised concerns about unexplained killings, robberies and other criminal incidents.

The incident follows the killing of another community elder in Muhammad Aghah district of Logar province several days earlier. That individual was also killed by unidentified armed men, according to local sources.

The latest incidents have renewed concerns among communities about personal security and the ability of local authorities to prevent targeted killings and other crimes.

No further details have been made public regarding the identity of the attackers or whether arrests have been made in connection with the Faryab killing. Local residents are awaiting further information from security authorities as investigations continue.
