Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has claimed that the Pakistani military carried out overnight airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Paktika provinces.
According to Mujahid, the strikes were carried out amid ongoing security tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He alleged that the Pakistani military establishment was attempting to divert attention from security problems inside Pakistan through the latest attacks.
Mujahid said three civilians, including women and men, were killed in the strike in Kunar, while four others were wounded. He further claimed that strikes in Paktika targeted a house and a shop but caused no human casualties.
The Taliban spokesperson described the reported strikes as “aggression and oppression” and warned that the Afghan authorities would provide what he called an appropriate response.
The allegations come amid continued tensions between Islamabad and Kabul over cross-border militancy and security concerns. Pakistan has repeatedly expressed concerns about militant groups operating from Afghan territory, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Details regarding the reported civilian casualties and damage in Kunar and Paktika have not been independently verified. The claims also come as both sides continue to exchange accusations over security incidents along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Afghanistan has failed to stop cross border attacks and one such attack recently claimed lives of several policemen and civilians in Pakistan’s Kohat district.
