Security conditions in northeastern Afghanistan have deteriorated further following a targeted mine explosion in Fayzabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan.

According to local sources, the blast specifically targeted a vehicle carrying the Taliban’s provincial court chief.

The incident took place on Wednesday, the 14th of Miizan, near the intersection of the New City project area in the city.

While sources confirmed that an explosive device caused the blast, immediate details regarding casualties, the extent of injuries, and the precise health condition of the targeted court official remain unavailable.

This security breach follows a troubling pattern of targeted attacks against Taliban officials and security personnel in the province.

Just recently, a booby-trapped motorcycle explosion in the center of Fayzabad successfully targeted several intelligence employees belonging to the ruling administration.

The recurring nature of these ambushes demonstrates the persistent challenges facing the de facto security apparatus as armed opposition factions continue to exert pressure in the region.
