KABUL — The situation in western Kabul’s Green Hope Township has taken an increasingly coercive turn following the temporary release of three local community representatives. The individuals, who had been detained earlier by the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice, were freed on bail after enduring intense interrogation and pressure.

Coerced Commitments Under Duress

According to local sources, the release was conditioned entirely on compliance with the regime’s contentious administrative decrees.

The Taliban reportedly forced the representatives to sign commitments regarding the systematic evacuation of their own residential properties. In addition to securing these forced pledges, authorities issued explicit threats: if residents continue to resist the eviction orders or refuse to vacate the township, remaining family members will face arbitrary detention and arrest.

Escalating Urban Displacement Tactics

The latest developments underscore a broader, heavy-handed pattern of property coercion and displacement targeting urban neighborhoods in Kabul.

Coupled with recent arbitrary financial levies—such as forced room-rent demands and back-payment edicts—the regime’s actions reflect an aggressive strategy to marginalize local populations and seize control of established residential properties. Human rights monitors note that these aggressive tactics violate basic property rights, leaving vulnerable urban families trapped between extortion and homelessness.
