Local sources in Panjshir Province say Taliban forces have detained six residents of Rakha District following an incident in which two military vehicles belonging to the group were reportedly set on fire.
According to the sources, the detentions took place after the vehicles were targeted and set ablaze. The identities of those detained and the circumstances surrounding their arrests have not been disclosed.
The incident has reportedly increased security concerns among residents in the district, with local sources expressing concern over possible further arrests. No information has so far been provided regarding the current whereabouts of the six detainees or whether they have been formally charged with any offence.
Panjshir has remained a sensitive security area since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021. The province has witnessed armed resistance against the Taliban, as well as reports of arrests and security operations targeting individuals suspected of links to opposition groups.
