ISLAMABAD: Spokesperson for the President of Pakistan Murtaza Solangi has warned the Taliban against further cross-border actions, saying Pakistan would not be pressured or deterred by drone activity.

In a statement on September 24, Solangi said the Taliban should not assume that sending a small number of drones across the border could intimidate Pakistan. He warned that what he described as provocative actions would not pass without consequences.

His remarks followed Pakistan’s claim that eight drones launched from Afghanistan had entered Pakistani airspace and were intercepted near the Torkham border and Kohat. Taliban authorities have rejected Pakistan’s allegations regarding the drone attacks.

Solangi said such confrontations would not divert Pakistan from its diplomatic efforts for regional and international peace. He also criticized the Taliban over what he described as broken commitments, restrictions on women and girls, and repression of religious and ethnic minorities.

He further accused the Taliban of using religious and nationalist messaging against Pakistan to shift attention away from domestic challenges and its commitments under the Doha Agreement. These are the Pakistani government’s stated allegations and have not been independently established in the statement.

Solangi warned that continued confrontation with Pakistan could further isolate the Taliban authorities. He also referred to the collapse of the first Taliban government and argued that repeating what he characterized as policies of extremism and isolation could produce serious political consequences.

Pakistan has simultaneously maintained that it does not seek escalation and says it remains committed to dialogue and regional peace, while insisting that attacks originating from Afghan territory will be met with a response.
