BADAKHSHAN: An orphaned child was allegedly severely beaten by a mullah at Bibi Esma Mosque in the fifth district of Badakhshan, according to local sources.
The sources told Afghanistan International on Tuesday that the child, identified as Mohammad, was subjected to severe physical abuse at the mosque.
According to the sources, Mohammad is an orphan and lives with his mother. They said the child’s mother has refrained from pursuing the case or filing a formal complaint because she fears possible consequences.
The sources did not provide further details about the circumstances that led to the alleged beating or explain why the mullah allegedly assaulted the child.
There was also no immediate information about whether the religious figure had been detained or whether local authorities had opened an investigation into the incident.
The case has raised concerns about the safety of children in religious and educational settings, particularly where families may face difficulties in seeking legal remedies.
The allegations could not be independently verified, and no official statement regarding the incident was immediately available.
Further investigation would be required to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine whether legal action has been taken against those accused.
