A woman was killed and 27 other people, including women and children, were injured after a vehicle carrying internally displaced persons overturned in Laghman province.

The Taliban police command in Laghman said the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. on Monday in Qarghayi district along the Kabul-Jalalabad highway.

According to the police, the vehicle was carrying internally displaced people when it overturned, resulting in one death and injuries to 27 passengers.

The injured included women and children and were transferred to Nangarhar Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

The cause of the accident was not immediately disclosed by authorities. Further details about the condition of those injured were also not available.

Road accidents are a frequent cause of deaths and injuries on Afghanistan’s major highways, where difficult road conditions, speeding, overloaded vehicles and other factors can contribute to serious crashes.

Authorities have not provided further information about the identities of the victims or the vehicle involved in the incident.
