The National Examinations Authority under Taliban administration has announced that the national medical practice licensing exam, commonly known as the exit exam, will take place on Friday for medical treatment graduates. Nasir Khan Shirzai, spokesperson for the authority, confirmed that dentistry graduates will sit for their licensing tests later in the month, marking another official academic milestone reserved strictly for male candidates.

For consecutive years, female medical graduates have been systematically excluded from participating in these essential licensing examinations. Despite completing years of rigorous higher education, thousands of qualified women remain barred from obtaining legal practice credentials, effectively halting their professional careers and dismantling the country’s skilled medical workforce.

This institutional ban severely exacerbates Afghanistan’s collapsing public healthcare infrastructure. In a country where social norms and regime decrees dictate strict gender segregation in public services, depriving female medical professionals of certification directly cuts off millions of Afghan women and children from accessing essential healthcare and maternal services.

For neighboring states, particularly Pakistan, the complete breakdown of basic public service delivery and social stability inside Afghanistan remains a major concern. The regime’s ongoing administrative failures and institutional discrimination aggravate internal social turmoil, creating long-term humanitarian pressures that directly impact cross-border stability and South Asian regional health security.

International health organizations and human rights observers warn that barring female healthcare workers will lead to irreversible systemic collapse. Sustainable national recovery in Afghanistan cannot be achieved through systemic gender exclusion that deprives the populace of vital medical care and functional state administration.
