A central high school serving the Sabir and Yaqubi districts of Khost province has remained damaged for eight years after a Taliban car bomb attack destroyed parts of the school in 2018, according to local sources cited by Zia News.

The school was located next to a post of the Afghan National Army during the former Afghan government. Local sources said the Taliban carried out a car bomb attack targeting the military post, which also damaged the school and affected its educational facilities.

According to the sources, the school has not been fully rebuilt since the attack. Students continue to attend classes in damaged classrooms, where they reportedly face difficulties during periods of strong winds and rain.

The prolonged condition of the school has raised concerns about the learning environment for students in the area. Local residents say that despite the passage of years, reconstruction work has not been completed.

Available information cited by Zia News indicates that insecurity during the former republican government initially affected reconstruction efforts. The sources further allege that corruption has contributed to delays in rebuilding the school under the Taliban administration.

The situation highlights the challenges faced by students in parts of Afghanistan, where schools and other public facilities damaged during years of conflict continue to require reconstruction.

Local residents are calling for the damaged educational facilities to be rebuilt so students can study in safer and more suitable classrooms.
