KABUL: Afghanistan’s Meteorology Department has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and possible flooding in several provinces of the country over the next two days.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the weather conditions are expected in seven provinces, including Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Logar, Paktia and Khost.

The department forecast rainfall ranging between 10 and 30 millimeters in different areas of the affected provinces. Residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas have been advised to remain cautious as heavy rain could increase the risk of localized flooding.

The forecast also warned of strong winds in parts of western, southern and southeastern Afghanistan. Wind speeds in some areas are expected to reach between 50 and 80 kilometers per hour.

The combination of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds could affect travel and daily activities, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.

Authorities and residents in the affected provinces are expected to take precautionary measures as the weather system develops. People living near rivers, streams and other flood-prone areas have been advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions.

The latest forecast highlights the potential for severe weather across parts of Afghanistan, particularly in the eastern and southeastern provinces, during the stated period.
