The Afghanistan Freedom Front has claimed that 10 Taliban fighters were killed and six others wounded during a fresh round of clashes in Zibak district of Badakhshan province.

According to a press release issued by the Freedom Front on Wednesday, 4 Shahrivar/SenBula, fighting between its forces and Taliban units began after noon the previous day and continued until around 10 p.m.

The group claimed that Taliban forces launched several attacks in an attempt to break through defensive lines and seize positions held by Freedom Front fighters. According to the statement, the Taliban used artillery fire during the offensive but failed to achieve their objectives.

The Freedom Front said its fighters mounted strong resistance against the attacking forces and subsequently launched a counterattack. The group claimed that the counteroffensive inflicted significant casualties on Taliban forces and forced them to withdraw from the area.

The reported clashes are part of continuing armed confrontations between Taliban forces and anti-Taliban groups in parts of Afghanistan. Badakhshan, particularly its mountainous districts, has witnessed reports of resistance activity and security operations in recent months.

The casualty figures and details of the fighting have not been independently verified. There has also been no immediate independent confirmation of the Freedom Front’s claims from Taliban authorities.

The latest report highlights the continuing security challenges facing Badakhshan and the persistence of armed opposition to Taliban forces in some parts of the province.
