Sources in Mazar-i-Sharif city, Balkh province, have alleged that an individual is forcibly collecting 10,000 Afghanis from families for the construction of a mosque.

According to sources who spoke to local media on Monday, 16 Saure/Shahrivar, the alleged collection is taking place in the fifth district of Mazar-i-Sharif. The mosque is reportedly being constructed in the Nowabad Pass area, opposite the silo.

Sources claim that families in the area are being asked to pay 10,000 Afghanis toward the construction project. However, details about the identity of the person collecting the money, the total amount being raised and whether the contributions are officially authorized remain unclear.

The allegations have raised concerns among local residents over the manner in which the money is reportedly being collected. While communities often contribute voluntarily toward the construction or renovation of mosques, residents may object when contributions are allegedly demanded under pressure.

No official statement has so far been reported regarding the alleged collection or whether local authorities have approved the fundraising effort.

The incident highlights concerns surrounding informal financial collections from residents, particularly when large sums are requested from families without clear information about the project, its organizers or the use of collected funds.

Further details are expected to emerge regarding the mosque project and the allegations of forced payments. A response from local authorities or the individuals involved could clarify whether the collection was officially authorized and whether residents were required to contribute.
