Deepening factional rivalries within the de facto administration erupted into a deadly armed confrontation in Helmand province, where competing Taliban units clashed over the control of a lucrative seized drug shipment.

According to local security sources, the violent skirmish broke out in the remote border district of Behram Chah between a specialized unit and local franchise fighters. The dispute centered directly on the confiscation and subsequent custody of a major opium cargo moving through southern trafficking networks.

The exchange of heavy gunfire resulted in at least 11 Taliban members killed and 13 others sustaining various injuries. Incidents of internal friction and armed confrontations over smuggling routes, customs taxation, and illicit narcotics trade have steadily risen among provincial commanders, exposing growing fractures and local turf wars within the movement’s ranks.

Despite official declarations prohibiting the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics, southern transit hubs like Behram Chah remain critical nodes for cross-border smuggling networks, frequently triggering violent disputes over control of illicit revenue streams.
