The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed that its forces repelled a “full-scale” attack by Taliban forces and what it described as “foreign allied terrorists” supporting the group.
According to a statement issued by the front on Monday, fighting broke out between its fighters and Taliban forces and continued for approximately one hour. The AFF said both sides used light and heavy weapons during the confrontation.
The group claimed that its forces successfully resisted the attack and forced the Taliban-led fighters to withdraw from the area. However, the statement did not provide specific details about casualties suffered by either side.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front is one of several armed opposition groups operating against the Taliban in Afghanistan. It has previously claimed responsibility for attacks on Taliban positions in different parts of the country. Recent reports have also documented clashes involving the AFF and Taliban forces in Badakhshan province, where both sides have reportedly used light and heavy weapons.
The latest claim comes amid continued reports of armed resistance against the Taliban, despite the group maintaining control over most of Afghanistan since returning to power in 2021.
There has been no independent confirmation of the AFF’s account, and the Taliban has not been cited as providing a separate assessment of the reported clash. The exact location of Monday’s fighting and details of possible casualties remain unclear.
