Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has highlighted similarities between the Taliban administration in Afghanistan and Iran’s Islamic Republic, describing both as religious governments committed to the unity of Muslims.

Mujahid said the Taliban would not allow relations with Iran to weaken, emphasizing the importance of maintaining ties between the two neighboring countries.

According to the Taliban spokesperson, the two governments share certain religious and political characteristics, particularly their stated focus on Islamic governance and Muslim unity.

His remarks come as Afghanistan and Iran continue to maintain political, economic and security ties despite differences and ongoing regional challenges. The Taliban has sought to strengthen relations with neighboring countries since returning to power in 2021.

Mujahid’s comments also signal the Taliban’s intention to preserve its relationship with Tehran and avoid tensions that could affect cooperation between the two sides.
