Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Amir Khan Muttaqi held a telephone conversation with Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General, focusing on future engagement and cooperation under the Doha process.

According to the ministry, the two sides discussed ways of continuing cooperation within the framework of the Doha process. The United Nations has not yet issued a statement or comment on the reported conversation.

The latest round of Doha process working group meetings was held in Kabul in February this year. The meetings focused on issues including counter-narcotics efforts and support for Afghanistan’s private sector.

The reported phone call comes as international engagement with the Taliban continues through diplomatic and multilateral channels, with the Doha process serving as one of the key platforms for discussions on Afghanistan.

The Taliban has sought greater international engagement while calling for cooperation on economic and political issues. Meanwhile, the UN continues to engage with Afghan authorities on a range of humanitarian, economic and development-related matters.

Further details about the reported conversation, including any specific agreements or commitments, have not been made public.
