Local sources in Faryab province have reported that Taliban forces detained and allegedly tortured a former member of Afghanistan’s military.

According to the sources, the man, identified as Mohammad Ismail, was taken from Maimana, the capital of Faryab province, on Friday.

Sources confirmed the incident to local media on Saturday, saying that Ismail had been detained by Taliban forces. They further alleged that he was subjected to torture following his detention.

The circumstances surrounding his arrest, including the reason for his detention and his current condition, remain unclear. No detailed information has been publicly provided regarding whether formal charges have been brought against him.

The reported detention adds to continuing concerns over the treatment of former members of Afghanistan’s security and military forces following the Taliban’s return to power. Human rights organizations have previously documented allegations of arbitrary detention, mistreatment and other abuses involving former security personnel.

However, the latest allegations concerning Mohammad Ismail have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate public response from Taliban authorities regarding the reported detention or claims of torture.

Local sources say the case remains under observation as concerns grow over the safety of former government and security personnel in parts of Afghanistan.
