Dawood Naji, head of the political committee of the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), has raised serious alarms regarding the de facto administration’s military appointments in the country’s northeast. According to Naji, the Taliban have appointed Maulvi Mahbullah as the new district police commander for Zebak in Badakhshan province—an official alleged to have previously coordinated and organized foreign militants, including Tajik and Uyghur fighters.

Naji emphasized that the de facto regime has a documented history of deploying foreign proxy fighters during military engagements against resistance positions held by the Afghanistan Freedom Front. The incorporation of transnational militant networks into formal local security structures underscores the growing reliance of hardline factions on external elements to suppress domestic armed opposition.

The strategic appointment comes against the backdrop of persistent military friction in Badakhshan, where northern transit corridors and districts like Zebak have repeatedly witnessed intense clashes between AFF commandos and de facto security units. While resistance leadership continues to spotlight the regime’s reliance on foreign fighters, these specific administrative linkages and command backgrounds remain difficult to independently verify.

For neighboring states, including Pakistan and Central Asian republics, the active presence and institutional promotion of foreign militant commanders near frontier zones present an acute trans-boundary security threat. Regional intelligence monitors have consistently warned that unchecked transnational extremist networks operating within northern Afghanistan endanger broader regional stability.

International security analysts conclude that the integration of hardline foreign elements into provincial command structures further exposes the ideological divergence between local populations and the de facto administration, cementing long-term instability across the country’s northern tier.
