Taliban intelligence operatives have arrested Haroon, the son of well-known local jihadi commander Abdul Khalik Khan Chakar, in northwestern Badghis province. Local sources confirmed that intelligence forces taken Haroon into custody, transporting him to an undisclosed detention facility without formal charges or legal warrant.

The arbitrary detention of Haroon Chakar reflects a broader, systematic effort by the de facto administration’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) to neutralize traditional local leaders, former commanders, and influential family networks across northwestern Afghanistan. Fearing localized uprisings and covert cooperation with anti-Taliban resistance fronts, regime security forces have intensified surveillance, search operations, and extrajudicial arrests against figures possessing historical influence or community authority.

Local residents report that the GDI’s heavy-handed tactics in Badghis have heightened fear and social friction. Rather than consolidating stability, the regime’s reliance on arbitrary detentions, forced disappearance tactics, and aggressive intelligence sweeps continues to alienate regional communities and dismantle local social structures.

For neighboring states, including Pakistan, the persistent institutional lawlessness and arbitrary abuse of power inside Afghanistan highlight the fragile nature of the de facto administration’s internal control. Escalating local grievances and continuous human rights violations maintain an unstable security environment with long-term regional implications across South Asia.

International human rights observers reiterate that arbitrary arrests and the denial of due process constitute severe violations of fundamental human rights norms, emphasizing that sustainable peace cannot be built on state-sponsored intimidation and unlawful detentions.
