A series of traffic accidents across northern highways in Jowzjan and Samangan provinces has claimed three lives and left three others injured. Local Taliban security officials confirmed that the fatal incidents occurred along major transit corridors connecting Balkh with neighboring northern provinces.
According to Hashmatullah Rahmani, spokesperson for the Taliban security command in Samangan, a motorcycle lost control and veered off the road along the Samangan-Dar-e Suf highway near Hassan Khel village, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. Additional collisions were reported along the busy Balkh-Jowzjan and Balkh-Samangan routes, underscoring persistent safety hazards across Afghanistan’s primary roadways.
The high frequency of fatal road accidents across northern provinces reflects severe administrative neglect and dilapidated transport infrastructure under the current regime. Reckless driving, unmaintained roadways, lack of traffic regulation enforcement, and absence of emergency medical services consistently turn minor transit disruptions into deadly disasters.
For neighboring states, including Pakistan, the ongoing breakdown of basic public infrastructure and administrative oversight inside Afghanistan represents a critical concern. Safe transit and reliable regional trade corridors require functional governance, modern transportation safety standards, and institutional accountability, all of which remain severely compromised under Kabul’s current de facto administration.
International observers continue to point out that basic public safety and infrastructure maintenance are primary responsibilities of any governing authority. The regime’s failure to address basic domestic safety needs further illustrates the broader collapse of public service delivery and state administrative capacity throughout Afghanistan.
