Sources in Parwan province, north of Kabul, say Taliban authorities have detained six civilians in Salang district, including two former members of Afghanistan’s security forces.
According to the sources, two of those detained were identified as Raiees Agha Salangi and Nasrullah, who previously served in the police force under Afghanistan’s former government. Their reported detention has raised concerns over the treatment of former security personnel following the Taliban’s return to power.
The four other detainees were identified as Sharif, Mohammad Agha, Mirwais and Sohrab. Sources said all four are students and were also taken into custody by Taliban authorities.
The circumstances surrounding the reported arrests, including the reasons for the detentions and the current whereabouts of the six individuals, remain unclear. There has been no independent verification of the allegations or immediate public explanation from Taliban authorities regarding the reported detentions.
The incident comes amid continued reports of arrests and detentions of former government personnel and civilians across Afghanistan. Human rights organizations have repeatedly raised concerns over arbitrary detention and the treatment of former security personnel under Taliban rule.
The reported arrests in Salang are likely to draw further attention to the security situation in Parwan and concerns surrounding the rights and safety of civilians and former members of Afghanistan’s security forces.
