Footage circulating from Asadabad, the capital of Afghanistan’s Kunar province, appears to show individuals identified as members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The footage emerged after Pakistani airstrikes targeted militant positions in Afghanistan on Wednesday night.

Pakistan said its strikes in Kunar and Helmand targeted militant hideouts and that 22 militants were killed. Islamabad identified the TTP and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) as among the groups targeted.

A post by Afghan political figure Barmak Hamdard said TTP militants were present in Asadabad and may have been killed in the Pakistani strikes. However, the identities and status of the individuals shown in the footage have not been independently verified.

Afghan Taliban authorities have given a different account of the strikes, saying civilian homes were hit in Kunar and Helmand.

Pakistani authorities maintains that the operation was based on intelligence and specifically targeted militant infrastructure.
