Political affairs expert Ahmad Saeedi has discussed the Taliban’s security record since they returned to power, saying security has been presented by the group as one of its major achievements.

Saeedi said the Taliban have repeatedly highlighted security in their public statements and portrayed the establishment of nationwide security as a key accomplishment of their administration.

According to Saeedi, the Taliban have used the security situation as an important part of their narrative since taking control of Afghanistan. He noted that the group frequently contrasts the current situation with the period before its return to power, when Afghanistan experienced widespread armed conflict and insecurity.

However, Saeedi’s remarks also raise questions about how security should be assessed across the country and whether the Taliban’s claims fully reflect the situation on the ground.

Afghanistan has continued to face security challenges despite a significant reduction in large-scale fighting compared with previous years. Incidents involving militant groups, targeted attacks, unexplained killings and other forms of violence have continued to be reported in different parts of the country.

Saeedi’s comments form part of a broader debate over the Taliban’s record since August 2021, with supporters emphasizing the reduction in nationwide warfare while critics continue to point to security incidents and other concerns.

The assessment reflects Saeedi’s political analysis and does not by itself establish an independent measure of Afghanistan’s overall security situation.
