KANDAHAR: The Taliban police command in Kandahar has confirmed that two of its members were involved in beating and torturing a number of children in Spin Boldak district.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Taliban authorities said the two individuals had been detained following the incident. Their case has also been referred to the court for legal proceedings.
The statement did not provide further details about the number of children affected, the nature of their injuries, or the circumstances that led to the alleged abuse.
The incident was reported in Spin Boldak, a district in southern Kandahar bordering Pakistan. The area is an important border crossing point and has a large movement of people and vehicles.
The Taliban police command said action had been taken against the two members and that their case would be dealt with through the judicial process.
No further information was immediately available regarding the condition of the children or whether their families had filed formal complaints.
The confirmation comes amid continued concerns over the treatment of civilians and children in Afghanistan. Rights groups have repeatedly called for accountability in cases involving alleged abuse by security personnel and other authorities.
The latest case highlights the importance of transparent investigations and legal proceedings when allegations of violence against children involve members of security forces.
