Local sources in Badakhshan province have told Afghanistan International that the Taliban command in Raghi Kohistan district came under rocket attacks on the evening of Monday, September 7.

According to the sources, several rockets struck the compound of the Taliban command in the district. The attacks reportedly targeted the command facility, while at least one rocket landed in the market of Raghi Kohistan.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents, particularly following the reported impact of a rocket in a populated market area. However, details regarding possible casualties or the extent of material damage were not immediately available from the sources.

The identity of those responsible for the rocket attacks also remains unclear. No group has been identified as having claimed responsibility for the incident at the time of reporting.

Raghi Kohistan is among the districts of Badakhshan where security developments remain closely watched due to the province’s strategic location and periodic reports of armed activity.

The latest attack highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of northern Afghanistan despite the Taliban’s claims of having established nationwide security following their return to power in August 2021.

Further details regarding casualties, damage to the Taliban compound and the circumstances surrounding the attack are expected as more information becomes available.
