A taxi driver named Ma’roof was reportedly killed by robbers last week in the Badam Bagh area of Kabul’s 17th district, according to sources cited by 8 AM newspaper.

The sources, speaking to the newspaper on Monday, September 30, said Ma’roof was attacked while working as a taxi driver. The attackers allegedly targeted him over the vehicle he was operating.

According to the report, Ma’roof was killed with knife wounds after being attacked by the robbers. His body was subsequently thrown into a ditch, the sources said.

The report further stated that the taxi did not belong to Ma’roof. He had reportedly been working as a hired driver for the vehicle.

No further information has so far been made public regarding the identities of the suspected perpetrators or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The killing comes amid continuing reports of criminal activity and security incidents in Afghanistan. While the Taliban authorities have repeatedly said that security has improved across the country since they returned to power in August 2021, reports of robberies, targeted killings and other criminal incidents continue to emerge from different areas.

The latest incident has renewed concerns among residents and transport workers about personal safety, particularly for those working late hours or operating vehicles on Kabul’s roads.
