Taliban intelligence chief Abdul Haq Wasiq reportedly made a confidential and unannounced visit to India around 10 days ago, where he allegedly held meetings with Indian security and political officials.

According to reports citing informed sources, the visit was arranged discreetly and no official details were released regarding Wasiq’s trip, the people he met or the issues discussed. Neither the Indian government nor the Taliban administration has publicly confirmed the reported visit.

The reported trip comes at a sensitive time for relations between Afghanistan’s Taliban administration and Pakistan. Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have increased in recent months, with disagreements over security issues, border tensions and accusations concerning militant activity.

The alleged visit has reportedly attracted attention within Pakistan’s political, intelligence and security circles because of its timing and the senior position held by Wasiq. As the Taliban’s intelligence chief, his reported meetings with Indian officials could carry significant regional implications if confirmed.

India has expanded its engagement with the Taliban administration in recent years, including contacts with senior Taliban officials. Several high-ranking Taliban figures have travelled to India as New Delhi has pursued a policy of increasing diplomatic and economic engagement with Afghanistan.

However, the purpose of Wasiq’s reported visit and the nature of any discussions remain unclear. Reports have not provided verified details about whether the meetings involved security cooperation, intelligence matters, regional developments or bilateral relations.

For now, the reported visit remains unconfirmed by both sides, and its potential impact on Afghanistan-Pakistan relations is uncertain.
