TEHRAN / KABUL — At least seven Afghan migrants lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries following a traffic collision in Iran’s volatile southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.
According to regional human rights monitors and local traffic authorities, the accident took place along a major route in the Sarbaz area when a passenger vehicle transporting undocumented migrants collided head-on with a fuel-transport vehicle. Iranian road police officials attributed the initial cause of the crash to driver negligence after the migrant-carrying vehicle swerved across lanes.
The impact triggered a severe wreck, resulting in immediate fatalities among the travelers and the drivers involved. Emergency response teams rushed to the scene, transferring the nine injured individuals to nearby regional medical facilities for urgent care.
The incident underscores the persistent dangers faced by displaced populations navigating perilous, irregular migration pathways across the frontier. Sistan and Baluchestan remains a high-risk transit corridor heavily utilized by individuals seeking economic opportunities abroad, frequently plagued by high-speed transit accidents and hazardous terrain conditions.
