KABUL: The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed that its commandos are currently present in Kamar village of Kamdesh district, Nuristan province, after capturing the area from Taliban forces during overnight fighting.

In a statement, the group said its fighters remain positioned in the village following the operation. The AFF also rejected claims that civilians detained by the Taliban during the clashes were members of the armed group.

According to the Freedom Front, its commandos operate in military equipment and do not enter combat unarmed or dressed in civilian clothing. The group claimed that individuals the Taliban has described as captured AFF fighters are instead civilians, including local tourists, drivers and mining workers.

The Front called on Taliban authorities and others not to identify civilians as members of the armed opposition without evidence.

The claims come amid conflicting accounts of recent fighting in Kamdesh and neighbouring areas of Kunar province. The Freedom Front has said its forces captured several Taliban positions, while Taliban authorities have claimed that members of an opposing group were killed and detained.

Neither side’s full account of the battlefield situation has been independently verified. Information from the affected areas remains limited, making it difficult to establish the identities of those detained or determine the extent of territorial changes.

Further details are expected as information emerges regarding the situation in Kamar village and surrounding areas.
