A large cache of weapons and ammunition has reportedly been discovered during the evacuation of the Khatam al-Nabiyyin Seminary in Kabul.
According to reports, on September 8, the Taliban government’s Commission for Preventing Usurpation, in coordination with intelligence and police authorities, carried out the evacuation of the seminary. The operation involved personnel from the Third and Sixth Intelligence Zones as well as relevant police districts.
Abdur Razzaq, an official responsible for the seminary’s guards, said nine rifles were initially in their possession and that they also presented documents associated with the Sixth Police District. The weapons were subsequently handed over to the commission.
However, another weapons depot was reportedly discovered while the seminary’s blocks were being handed over and its guards dismissed.
According to the reports, the cache included three rocket launchers, two PK machine guns, 20 Kalashnikov rifles, 22 drum magazines, 21 empty Kalashnikov magazines, six chantas, 53 rocket rounds, approximately 2,250 PK rounds, 47 grenades, 10 boxes of PK ammunition and 10 communication devices.
The discovery has raised questions about the presence of such a large quantity of weapons and ammunition inside the seminary. Taliban officials have not yet disclosed who the weapons belonged to, how they came to be stored at the location or what their intended purpose was.
The reported discovery comes as Taliban authorities continue property-related operations and security checks at various locations across Kabul.
Further details regarding the ownership and origin of the weapons could emerge following an investigation by the relevant authorities.
