Pakistan has welcomed China’s efforts to improve relations between Islamabad and Kabul but has emphasized that stronger and sustained action is needed to curb attacks by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Afghanistan.

According to a report by Dawn, Taliban authorities have recently relocated some TTP fighters and their families away from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and instructed the group to stop carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. However, Pakistani officials believe these measures have produced only limited results, as militant activity and border tensions continue.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to take concrete steps to prevent Afghan territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan. Pakistan accuses the TTP of maintaining safe havens in Afghanistan, while Taliban authorities deny the allegations.

Recent clashes along the border have further increased tensions between the two countries. Pakistan has linked several security incidents to TTP activity, while Kabul has accused Pakistan of conducting operations inside Afghan territory.

The TTP has intensified attacks in Pakistan since ending its ceasefire with Islamabad in late 2022, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Pakistan has also welcomed Beijing’s mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions between the neighboring countries. China has encouraged stronger counterterrorism cooperation and seeks greater stability along the border to protect regional connectivity and economic projects, including those linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Islamabad maintains that temporary relocation of militants is insufficient and is seeking verifiable, long-term measures against militant networks operating from Afghan territory.
