A commander associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Amir Maulvi Zarrar Momand, was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen in Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Kunar, where unidentified attackers opened fire on Zarrar Momand, killing him. The identity and motives of the attackers remain unknown.

Zarrar Momand was reportedly an active commander within the TTP, an armed militant organization operating primarily against the Pakistani state. His killing could have implications for the group’s local networks and activities in eastern Afghanistan, particularly in areas where militant factions and rival groups operate.

Kunar shares a border with Pakistan and has historically been an area of concern because of the presence and movement of various militant groups. The province’s mountainous terrain also makes it difficult for authorities to maintain comprehensive security and monitor armed activity.

No group has so far publicly claimed responsibility for the reported killing, and further details about the circumstances of the attack remain limited.

The incident highlights continued security challenges involving militant figures in Afghanistan, where targeted killings and clashes among armed groups have periodically occurred.

Independent confirmation of Zarrar Momand’s death and additional details about the attack are still awaited.
