A severe traffic accident in the Shinwari district of central Parwan province has resulted in the deaths of six individuals after a passenger vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a river.

According to reports from local sources and confirmations from regional police officials, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 15 (23 Mizaan). A Saracha-type passenger vehicle traveling from Ghorband district toward Kabul lost control in the Bagh-e-Afghan sector of Shinwari district and plunged into the adjacent river.

Local emergency services and law enforcement personnel dispatched to the scene recovered four bodies—including that of the vehicle’s driver—from the submerged wreckage, while two children were swept away by the river’s strong current. Field search-and-rescue teams, supported by local residents, conducted ongoing operations along the riverbanks to recover the missing victims.

Traffic fatalities remain widespread across Afghanistan’s mountainous corridors and highways. Decades of neglected road infrastructure, reckless driving, lack of safety barriers near natural hazards, and overspeeding on narrow provincial highways continue to contribute to high mortality rates across regional transit networks.
