Afghanistan’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing says Uzbekistan has expressed readiness to invest in the country’s housing sector and township construction projects.

According to the ministry, Minister of Urban Development and Housing Najibullah Haqqani met with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Kabul, Avibek Usmanov, to discuss potential investment and cooperation in the housing sector.

During the meeting, Usmanov said Uzbekistan was prepared to invest in housing and township development in Afghanistan. He specifically noted his country’s interest in investing in housing projects in Kabul.

The Uzbek ambassador also presented a proposal for cooperation between two educational institutions in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing. The proposed cooperation would focus on exchanging technical information and strengthening the professional capacities of engineers working within the ministry.

The discussions come as Afghanistan’s authorities seek greater regional economic engagement and foreign investment in infrastructure and urban development projects. Housing remains a significant challenge in major Afghan cities, particularly Kabul, where rapid population growth and limited urban infrastructure have increased demand for residential development.

If implemented, the proposed cooperation could provide opportunities for technical training and knowledge exchange between Afghan and Uzbek engineering professionals, while potential investment could contribute to housing and township development.

However, details regarding the size, timeline and specific projects involved in the proposed Uzbek investment have not yet been disclosed.
