Germany has contributed €6.8 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF) to support humanitarian assistance for people affected by the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Monday.
OCHA thanked the German government for the contribution in a post on X, saying the funding would help sustain lifesaving humanitarian assistance for vulnerable communities across the country.
The contribution comes as Afghanistan continues to face significant humanitarian challenges, including food insecurity, displacement, limited access to essential services and economic difficulties. Humanitarian organizations operating in the country rely heavily on international funding to maintain assistance programs for millions of people.
The Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund is one of the mechanisms used by the United Nations to channel funding toward urgent humanitarian needs and support organizations responding to crises across the country.
Germany’s latest contribution is expected to help humanitarian partners continue providing essential assistance to communities facing severe needs. The funding also underscores the continued role of international donors in supporting humanitarian operations in Afghanistan despite the country’s prolonged political and economic challenges.
OCHA has repeatedly called on international donors to maintain financial support for humanitarian operations, warning that funding shortages could affect the delivery of critical assistance to vulnerable Afghans.
The German contribution is therefore expected to provide additional resources for lifesaving humanitarian programs and help sustain aid efforts across Afghanistan.
