KABUL — Prominent political activist Fahm-e Kuhdamani has launched a scathing critique against the Taliban and their supporters, accusing them of blatant political hypocrisy and utilizing religion merely as an instrument for power. Kuhdamani challenged the regime’s self-proclaimed status as defenders of Islam, questioning why leadership maintains a conspicuous silence regarding the systematic suppression of Muslims by major global powers.
Pointing to well-documented and credible reports of the mass detention, torture, forced sterilization of Uyghurs, and the systematic destruction of mosques by Beijing, alongside historical injustices and ongoing crackdowns on Muslims in regions like Chechnya by Moscow, Kuhdamani put forward a direct challenge. He asked the Taliban leadership why they lack the moral courage to condemn the actions of China and Russia if their core criterion is genuinely defending the global Islamic community.
The activist emphasized that the fundamental rights and protection of Muslims cannot be selectively championed or compromised based on narrow group interests and geopolitical alignment. This critique underscores growing domestic frustration over the Taliban’s foreign policy double standards, where rhetorical defense of Islam is traded away to court diplomatic recognition and economic ties with powerful state allies while ignoring the plight of fellow Muslims abroad.
